CYBERJAYA, May 22, 2009 - The MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) 2009 Is Back! There Is Additional Reason To Celebrate Because This Year Marks The 10th Anniversary Of The Prestigious Event.

Entries are now open for companies, products or projects to be nominated for the MSC Malaysia APICTA 2009, themed “Stimulating Creativity & Excellence in ICT.”

A total of 18 awards are up for grabs at MSC Malaysia APICTA 2009, which is dubbed as the Oscars of the ICT industry. Winners of the MSC Malaysia APICTA 2009 will be sponsored to represent the country at the APICTA 2009 in Melbourne, Australia in December.

In the competition, winners in each category will also have the chance to vie for the Prime Minister’s ‘Best of the Best’ award.

A bonus incentive is in store for the Prime Minister’s ‘Best of the Best’ award winner, as the recipient will be eligible to attend a week-long Entrepreneurship Development Programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in U.S.A.

The categories which are open for nominations comprise; 1. Best of e-Learning 2. Best of e-Government & Services 3. Best of e-Inclusion & e-Community 4. Best of e-Health 5. Best of Security 6. Best of Communications Applications 7. Best of Industrial Applications 8. Best of e-Logistics 9. Best of Financial Applications 10. Best of Media & Entertainment 11. Best of Tourism & Hospitality 12. Best of Applications & Infrastructure Tools 13. Best of Research & Development 14. Best of Start-Up Companies 15. Best of Tertiary Student Project – Software/Hardware 16. Best of Tertirary Student Project – Creative Multimedia 17. Best of Secondary Student Project 18. Best of Primary Student Project

Nominations can be made online via and the closing date is 17th July, 2009.

MSC Malaysia APICTA 2009 is jointly organised by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), the driver of the MSC Malaysia initiative and the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (PIKOM).

The competition is aimed at giving recognition to outstanding achievements of individuals, students, entrepreneurs, SMEs and organisations operating here.

The award is also to recognise those who have contributed towards the development of the MSC Malaysia initiatives or in building applications and services for the benefit of the country.

MDeC Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Badlisham Ghazali said the competition is an ideal avenue for creativity, innovation and excellence in the local ICT sector to be put forth in the limelight.

“This is part of our continued efforts to accelerate the development of the ICT industry, so that the country can realise its goal of becoming a knowledge-based economy,” said Badlisham.

He added the competition allows individuals and organisations to demonstrate their capabilities and their achievements to be showcased to the rest of the world. MSC Malaysia APICTA 2009 winners will have the opportunity to enrol in MSC Malaysia Technopreneur Development Programmes and also participate in the relevant marketing missions abroad.
