CYBERVIEW Sdn Bhd recently announced the winners of its digital photography contest Discover: A zest of life in Cyberjaya.

The contest, which was held earlier this year, was aimed at showcasing the city’s growing vibrancy while encouraging participants to see the city in new light.

It succeeded in attracting entries from all over Malaysia.

Wnner: Serenity and calmness as life comes full circle epitomised.

The submissions were subjected to judging by public votes as well as a panel of professional photographers.

Fans of the submissions were given a chance to choose their favourite photos by ‘Liking’ them in the contest photo album on the Cyberjaya Events Facebook page.

“We were thoroughly impressed with the calibre of the photography skills and personal interpretations of Cyberjaya life expressed through the entries.

“This year, we received entries from all over Klang Valley and beyond, even from a 73-year-old who lives in Petaling Jaya,” said Cyberview Sdn Bhd managing director Hafidz Hashim.

The first prize winner was Johny Kok who pocketed RM3,500, while the second and third winners were Melvin Lee Yoong Zher and Izrulazhar Jasman who received RM2,000 and RM1,500 respectively.

Consolation prizes went to Ng Soh Kim, Jonah Ray Lego, Mohd Zamery Mat Dom, Nazarudin Wijee, and Foong Zaai Yuen who won first place in last year’s contest.

Having fun: Foong’s entry of a father and son having a splashing good time in the pool at the Cyberjaya Lake Gardens Community Club.

All winners and consolation prize recipients also received a certificate of participation from Hafidz and Cyberview business, corporate communications and planning general manager Rashid Mat.

Kok is no stranger to photography. A photographer for a bridal boutique in Kuala Lumpur, Kok spent almost two days to capture his winning photo, which features his daughter, Kok Wing Yan releasing fishes into Cyberjaya’s public lake.

Kok said his winning photo was his most confident entry among the hundreds of photos that he snapped for the contest.

“The lake is the most stunning natural feature in Cyberjaya.

“Before the photography contest, I always pictured Cyberjaya as only having buildings and universities,” said Kok, who was also surprised by the growing number of residential areas in Cyberjaya.

“Although this was my first visit to Cyberjaya, it definitely won’t be my last and I look forward to more photography contests by Cyberview,” he added.

Second runner-up Izrulazhar Jasman is a former Multimedia University (MMU) student who is now a graphic designer.

His interest in photography started five years ago and it was definitely more than beginner’s luck for Izrulazhar, who never expected to win.

His photo of a kingfisher in flight demonstrates his passion for capturing ‘lively things’, which according to him should show in the spirit of every photograph.

“I never had the intention to submit the photo for this competition when I took it, but a friend of mine managed to persuade me to participate after seeing this photo.

“The contest was very competitive and other contestants’ entries were very professional, so this has definitely given me a confidence boost to participate in upcoming photo contests,” said Izarulazhar.
