SECONDARY and university students are encouraged to explore their creative side in the inaugural Cyberjaya Writing Marathon, which runs until Dec 7, with cash prizes and iPad2 up for grabs.

The Cyberjaya Writing Marathon aims to stimulate creative thinking and innovative ideas among students, while at the same time emphasising the importance of ICT for the future of Malaysia. The competition also encourages these students to envision the future and importance of ICT in Cyberjaya.

“In line with the government’s aspirations to develop innovation and creativity among school children and also to welcome the National Innovation Movement 2012, Cyberview planned this initiative as part of its continuous effort to encourage greater adoption and awareness of ICT in Cyberjaya and beyond,” said Cyberview Sdn Bhd managing director Hafidz Hashim.

“The Cyberjaya Writing Marathon is also aimed to provide students the chance to know more about Cyberjaya — Malaysia’s pioneer global MSC Malaysia Cybercity hub and the preferred location for ICT, Multimedia and Services for innovation and operations.

“This will increase their understanding of the government’s vision in transforming the nation into a high-income, knowledge-based economy through ICT-led innovation,” Hafidz added.

The Cyberjaya Writing Marathon has two categories: Category A for Malaysian secondary school students aged 13 to 17 years old and Category B for Malaysians aged 18 to 26 years pursuing tertiary education locally.

Category A students have to write on the topic What is Cyberjaya to Me? and Category B students to have tackle the topic of Importance of Cyberjaya for Malaysia’s future.

There are no entry fees and contest forms can be downloaded from More information and terms and conditions are also located on the website.

Participants stand to win RM1,500, RM1,000 and RM500 in cash for first, second and third places respectively; along with a tablet PC for each winner. Winning entries will be assessed by independent judges for content, style and creativity and grammar.

The list of winners will be announced in mid-December on Cyberview Sdn Bhd’s website.

Sponsors for the Cyberjaya Writing Marathon 2011 include Mah Sing Group, Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd, Prima Properties Management Sdn Bhd and Telekom Malaysia.
