CYBERJAYA: Lesotho Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili received an Honorary Doctorate of Leadership today for being a 'charismatic leader' from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology at a special ceremony at the university, here.

.
On hand were First Lady Mathato Mosisili and 11 senior officials, including two cabinet ministers.

Mosisili, 66, who took his oath in May 1998 as the fourth elected Prime Minister of Lesotho, is looking to improve the territory's human resource base, employment, income generation and wealth creation as part of Lesotho's Vision 2020 project.

Over the past 12 years, he has introduced policies to reduce poverty, build peace and stability, provide better healthcare and improve education.

Later in his speech, Mosisili said that after his government introduced Free Primary Education (FPE) in 1999, the number of students increased from 364,951 in 1999 to 429,720 in 2003.

"In 2010, the government of Lesotho introduced legislation making primary education not only free but compulsory as well. The School Feeding Program under
the FPE ensures that 386,000 primary school pupils get at least one decent meal a day," he added.

He noted that after 10 years, secondary enrolments from the FPE had increased by 54 per cent.

Apart from education, his government also provided free healthcare in Government and Mission Health Centres. The initiative was responsible for the care and treatment of HIV patients, the provision of ARVs (antiretroviral
treatment) and the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

This is Mosisili's first official visit to Malaysia, despite attending the
Langkawi International Dialogue (LID) in 1997, 1999, 2002 and 2007.

Mosisili, who is on a four-day official visit to Malaysia, will leave for Istanbul, Turkey, tomorrow night. - Bernama
